ABOUT ARCC's REGIONAL MEETINGS

The Area Repeater Coordination Council is a membership-driven organization and we hold a series of regional meetings each year to give everyone an opportunity to participate in the affairs of the organization.

Because ARCC's coordination responsibilities cover the huge Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey areas, the organization is divided up into five "regions." For details on how these regions are organized and which one you are in, see the Regional Meetings page on this Web site.

You may attend any and all meetings but we try to hold local meetings to encourage the broadest participation.

1997 MEETING SCHEDULE

Because the following schedule must be considered tentative in part, we suggest you watch for further details on these Web pages...

* The Southeastern Regional Meeting was held on May 4 at the Warminster Amateur Radio Club Hamfest in Bucks County.

* The Northeastern Regional Meeting is being scheduled for July 6 at the Murgas Amateur Radio Club Hamfest at the Lehman Grange Fairgrounds.

* York County Fairgrounds will be the site for the Southwestern Regional Meeting on August 16. We will meet in Room 2, West End facing Memorial Hall, at 10 am during the York Hamfest.

* The tentative date for the Southern New Jersey Regional Meeting has not yet been set but we are aiming for September 20 in Mount Holly at the SJRA Hamfest.

* ARCC representatives will also be holding the organization's Annual Meeting on October 19 at the Bucks County Community College during the Penn Wireless Hamfest.

ABOUT THE ANNUAL MEETING

Among the matters expected to come before the October Annual Meeting are the following...

ELECTION OF A NEW SECRETARY
John Sichert, KA3LAO, has served as Secretary of ARCC from the time of its founding until recently when he accepted the responsibility as Frequency Coordinator for 2 Meters. Nominations for this office are being solicited now and a candidate or candidates will be on the October ballot. If you have a nominee to present, please send your suggestion by regular mail to ARCC, Inc., Post Office Box 244, Plumsteadville, PA 18949.

PROPOSALS TO AMEND THE BY-LAWS
As now written, the ARCC By-Laws call for two-year terms of office for ARCC officers and there are no provisions for staggered terms to provide for continuity in the organization's management. A proposal to stagger the terms of office for ARCC officers seems desirable and we will seek membership approval.

We will also seek membership approval of a proposal to create a class of life memberships. Generally, this proposal would include a life membership fee of ten times the annual dues, five prior years as a regular member in order to qualify and a simple majority vote of the executive committee to accept an applicant for life membership.

REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES

Our Regional representatives provide a direct local link between repeater owners and users and ARCC. They are the eyes and ears of the organization in each of ARCC's regions. While they have no responsibility for coordination, they often play key roles by surveying repeater activity in their areas and assisting in other ways.

Get to know your Regional representative!

Dick Stewart, K3ITH, is the Regional Representative for the EPA-SE Region.

In the EPA-SW area, John Shaffer, W3SST, holds that slot and the Regional Representative for EPA-NW is John Winkler, WB3GPY.

Don Curtis, W3LR, is the man to see in EPA-NE and Matt Mazziotta, N2KDV, serves the SNJ-SJ Region.

FREQUENCY COORDINATORS

ARCC's repeater frequency coordination responsibilities fall on the very capable shoulders of its Coordinators and they are led by its Vice President of Coordination, Ron Raymond, K3LPR.

George LeNoir, WR3B, is the Coordinator for 70 cm and up; Evan Resnikoff, WE3E, handles 6 and 10 Meter coordinations; and John Sichert, KA3LAO, is in charge of 220 and 440 mHz.

THE WAY IT IS

As we all should know, spectrum space is a finite resource and, in heavily-populated areas like the one in which we operate here in the northeast corridor, it should come as no surprise that there is a critical shortage of repeater frequencies.

In particular, repeater pairs on 2 Meters have long been used up and frequencies on 440 mHz are now at a premium.

Some repeater frequencies may be tied up by repeaters which are being used very little or, in some cases, not at all and, as a result, some of our repeater spectrum might not be well-used. If you are holding down a coordination which is inactive or one which could be surrendered because interest in it has waned, please let us know. By surrendering an inactive coordination, you may make it possible for someone else to make use of that frequency.

VISIT OUR WEB SITE

We know, we mentioned it briefly before on the first page but the ARCC Web page is a valuable resource, one with which you should become familiar.

We mention it here again because we also wanted to give credit to John LaMartina, K3NXU, who designed and built the page.

One of its less well-known features is that you can e-mail any of ARCC's officers by using the following e-mail address format:

(Call sign) @ arcc-inc.org

For example, if you wanted to e-mail ARCC president Steve White, his address would be:

wa3iao @ arcc-inc.org

Our corporate Web address is:
